Canadian ecommerce stores face a triple-jurisdiction exposure: AODA (Ontario, in force), ACA (federal, scaling enforcement), and ADA (US, cross-border traffic). All three reference WCAG as the technical benchmark:
- AODA (Ontario) applies to organizations with 50+ employees and is actively enforced by the Accessibility Directorate
- Accessible Canada Act (ACA, 2019) regulates federally-regulated entities with penalties up to $250,000 per violation
- Most Canadian Shopify stores sell into the US — ADA Title III applies the moment a US shopper transacts
- Provincial laws (Manitoba AMA, Nova Scotia AANS, British Columbia AABC) extend obligations beyond Ontario
- Disability advocacy groups (CNIB, ARCH, AODA Alliance) screen retailers and file complaints proactively
AODA administrative penalties run up to $100,000 per day for organizations. ACA penalties reach $250,000 per violation. A US ADA settlement on cross-border traffic typically lands at $20,000 to $75,000 plus legal fees. Reputation damage from a public complaint is harder to quantify but consistently reported.
If your store does $1M to $25M CAD in annual revenue and sells into Ontario or the US, you are visible enough to be screened and large enough to convert silent abandonment into measurable revenue. Documented WCAG 2.2 AA conformance is the cheapest defensible posture across all three jurisdictions.
A real audit. Real fixes. Documented conformance.
We audit your Shopify store against WCAG 2.2 AA, the standard referenced by AODA's IASR, the ACA standards work, and 95% of US ADA Title III cases. Eight templates, desktop and mobile, automated tools plus manual testing with NVDA and VoiceOver. No widgets, no overlays, no shortcuts that get cited as evidence of bad faith.
You receive:
- A 25 to 40-page audit report, clear language, severity-ranked
- A spreadsheet of every issue with location, WCAG criterion, and fix
- An accessibility statement, ready to publish
- An annotated executive summary with screenshots highlighting the top issues
- Email and chat Q&A for 7 days post-delivery (Telegram, Slack, or email)
Async by design. No calls to schedule, no meetings to prep, no time wasted. Everything in writing, with a paper trail you and your dev team can reference for months.
If you want us to fix what we find, we have a remediation add-on. If you want to keep clean as your store evolves, we have monthly monitoring.
Why we beat the alternatives
22.6% of stores sued in 2025 already had an overlay installed. Overlays do not protect you. Documented WCAG conformance does.

What 7 days looks like
Same process every audit. Same deliverables every time.
- Day 0
Onboarding
Async. You fill a 2-min onboarding form, we confirm scope by email and send a 1-page scope confirmation to sign. No call needed.
- Day 1
Automated baseline
We run axe-core, Pa11y, and Lighthouse across all 8 templates. Findings exported to a working CSV.
- Day 2
Manual structural audit
Heading hierarchy, landmarks, forms, semantics, alt text. Caught by humans, not scanners.
- Day 3
Keyboard interaction audit
Full purchase flow tested without a mouse. Focus, dropdowns, modals, skip links.
- Day 4
Screen reader audit
NVDA on Firefox. VoiceOver on Safari. Real users with real assistive tech.
- Day 5
Visual and contrast audit
Every text-background combination measured. 200% and 400% zoom tested.
- Day 6
Report writing and remediation plan
Findings compiled, prioritized, mapped to your Liquid templates. Accessibility statement drafted.
- Day 7
Delivery and handoff
Report, CSV, accessibility statement, and annotated executive summary delivered by 12:00 ET. Email and chat Q&A open for 7 days post-delivery (Telegram, Slack, or email).
What founders say

“Getting a ShieldStack audit was refreshingly practical. The report was clear and prioritized, every item came with the actual fix and an effort estimate, and there was zero upsell, just an honest, actionable picture of where the site stood. Exactly what a founder wants from an accessibility audit.”
Pricing

Frequently asked questions
- Will this guarantee no lawsuit, claim, or enforcement action?
- No, and anyone who says yes is lying. We guarantee documented WCAG 2.2 AA conformance at delivery. That is the strongest defensible posture. Most demand letters and complaints drop when a defendant produces a current third-party audit and remediation log.
- We already use an overlay widget. Aren't we covered?
- 22.6% of stores sued in 2025 had an overlay installed when they were sued. The DOJ and FTC have publicly stated overlays do not constitute conformance. AccessiBe is currently under FTC investigation for deceptive marketing.
- What if we have a custom theme?
- We audit any Shopify theme: Dawn, Impulse, Prestige, Turbo, custom builds. We do not audit headless setups outside of Shopify (Hydrogen, Next.js storefronts) without a separate scope.
- Do you do the actual fixes?
- Optionally. The Audit Sprint covers audit only. You can hand findings to your dev team or app developer. The Audit + Remediation package includes us doing the fixes ourselves.
- Do you handle general Shopify edits beyond accessibility (design tweaks, content changes, store setup)?
- No. Our scope is accessibility audits and WCAG remediation only. For everything else on a Shopify store without a developer (design tweaks, content edits, layout changes), our partner Webbu.ai does that. It's an AI editor that lets you ship any change by typing what you want.
- We have 5 stores. Bulk pricing?
- Yes. Reply to your audit report or email us. Multi-store pricing depends on theme overlap.
- How is this different from a tool like axe DevTools or Stark?
- Tools catch about 30% of WCAG issues. They cannot evaluate alt-text quality, screen reader experience, focus order, or context. Our audit combines automated tools with manual testing by humans using actual screen readers. That is the standard claimants use against you, so it is the standard we use to defend you.
- Are you lawyers?
- No. We deliver technical accessibility conformance, not legal advice. We work with accessibility defence firms when clients need legal positioning. Happy to introduce.
- What if my store also sells into the US, UK, or EU?
- We have dedicated US (ADA Title III), UK (Equality Act 2010), and EU (European Accessibility Act) pages with the right legal framing and native-currency pricing. Use the region switcher in the header. The audit methodology is identical across regions and the WCAG 2.2 AA standard is the same.
